The Gender War

Call it a sign of the times I suppose! Men are mad at women and women are mad at men. Hasn’t this always been the case? The more things change the more they stay the same. Nowadays, women blame the patriarchy and men blame feminism. Instead of only placing blame my approach is to identify the solution.

When women advocate for equal rights, men hear that we want to be their equals. Which may be true for some women, but this is a flawed perspective to have. When men throw out this “Equality” argument, it is a failed attempt to perpetuate the cycle of oppression women are enduring, even in today’s modern society. The equality argument can never be won because although equality is important, for humankind to continue to exist both genders are necessary and neither gender is the same. Equal doesn’t exactly mean the same.

For the most part, women do have equal rights. We have the right to work, own property, pursue education, start businesses, etcetera. There’s room for improvement when it comes to women’s rights and we are working on that. However, it seems the more right’s women obtain, the more bothered men become. As if women’s rights threaten their ability to see themselves as men. Is the male identity wrapped up in the oppression of women? It seems so. It’s time for a new way to identify manhood.

Black men have started movements online that, in their minds, is the adjacent black male version of the white man’s. “The Red Pill” community and “MGTOW = Men-Going-Their-Own-Way” collectively called the Manosphere are popular male advocacy groups that have recently gain popularity in mainstream media, due to their shocking misogynistic rhetoric, as well as violent criminals being linked to their online platforms. These platforms are public spaces where men can easily consume each others hateful sexist content continuously on a loop. This is dangerous to all women. Think of how many more entitled, deprived, and depraved males this genre of content may be grooming?

The flaw of these movements is that they’re so wrapped up in correcting women’s behavior. Also, these men seem to feel that they’re entitled to things from women such as attention, time, nurturing, submission, a smile when passing them in public, sex on the first date and other access to femininity. They don’t think that men should give us something to earn that.
