Siempre descubren -en ocasiones deslumbran con- un matiz diferente: una nota especiada inesperada, el recuerdo de una hierba cuyo aroma conocemos de memoria, una sutileza de textura que nos conmueve…

How I plan to become a better learner

Learning is actually a never ending process. A good person will always long to learn more every single day, and also will never stop learning as well. So if you are someone who loves in your overall development, then you should always keep yourself updated by reading everyday.

Recently I have completed an online course called “Learning How to Learn: Powerful mental tools to help you master tough subjects” offered by University of California, San Diego. I found this course really helpful to improve learning abilities.

As the course instructor, Barbara Oakley clearly explained about two modes of our brain:

1- Focused

Focused thinking when we concentrate intently on something on (Already familiar with) that we try to learn. This mode is more relaxed and fixed thinking style.

2- Diffused

Diffused thinking when our mind are in its resting or relaxed stage. We can look at things broadly from a very different, big picture perspective. Incidentally both metaphor and analogy are very helpful when we try to learn something new. She explained well with the example of pinball. All of the scientists who have achieved great have followed the pattern of going in focused mode for 20 to 25 minutes and then going to diffuse mode for some time to maximize their learning.

Incidentally both metaphor and analogy are very helpful when we try to learn something new.

Everyone is different and the level of concentration, understanding and retention, all vary from person to person. Learning new things is easy for others but very difficult for someone. Learning new things sometimes quite difficult and sometime easy tasks for me. While learning new things I face some kinds of challenges just like:

1- lack of concentration due to a short attention span

2- Fear of failure

3-procrastination, I had a really bad habit of doing every work on last moment, which sometimes end up with the worst results.

My most important takeaways from this course is the concept of diffused and focused mindset.

Second thing which I liked the most about that online course is the most of the course is established on new learning and I always like to try and learn new things.

I will try to apply it in my new learning experience and try to do my things according to that idea and always try to be focused mindset person. I will apply the pomodoro technique and the diffusive mindset are of much importance in doing things in excellent way.
