Life is About Weathering The Storms

Life is complicated. Life is like a roller coaster. Life is a combination of the good and the bad (the yin and the yang).

Whichever cliche you enjoy dishing out when waxing poetically about this journey of consciousness we collectively embark on, it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day, life is far more complex than these simple cliches give it credit for. Unfortunately our tiny brains are unable to completely understand what’s going on around us, if we did we would be able to thwart unforeseen events coming for us a la some Minority Report type universe. Because of that we often find ourselves in less than ideal scenarios that are (sometimes, not always) due to our own actions. Before we know it we’re dealing with a brute of a storm at our doorstep, and if we’re not careful it can sweep us out to sea.

Here are a few things to remember if you’re going through a beastly storm in your life right now. One, remember that we all go through events like this at some points in our lives. Life is suffering and none of us escape it. Sometimes it can be easy to play the victim card and scream woe is me at the gods, I’ve certainly done it before. But it doesn’t get anything done. Saying why me take power out of your hands. Rather than focusing your resources and energy on the solution you instead focus them on complaining about the problem being there in the first place which never gets anything done.

The second thing is to remember that you’re stronger than you could ever imagine. As a human being (or a human bean) you are made up of the same stuff of people who have defeated cancer, those who have walked again after doctors told them it was impossible, and those who have stared addiction, poverty, and mental illness in the face and told them they can go fuck themselves. No matter how difficult a situation has been, a human has been able to overcome. That means you can overcome whatever you’re dealing with. It may be painful but you can certainly get through it.

The final thing to remember is that all storms pass in time. When we get into the middle of one of these events and the rain is falling in excess, the wind is howling at our faces, and it’s colder than a m’fucker, it feels like it will never end. We almost accept that this environment will be our fate until the end of time. But that’s not true. The storms pass, they always do. And when we’re consciously armed with that knowledge it makes it easier to act accordingly. We can begin to make the right moves so that we will come out of the storm much stronger than when we when into it.

Whichever storm you are bracing right now just know that you can overcome it. You can withstand the winds that try to break you down. And most importantly of all, you will be stronger as a result of this test from life.

I leave you with this great quote: “There are some things we learn on stormy seas that we never learn on calm smooth waters. We don’t look for storms but they will surely find us. The “God of the Storm” has something to teach us, and His love always drives His actions.”
