Although a prized possession for many, cars don’t do a lot for me personally.
(Outside of the essential function of getting from Point A to Point B, of course).
But in terms of a status symbol or something to provide personal enjoyment — truth be told, I don’t give a shit about cars.
Given the choice, I’d rather splurge on almost anything else.
Travel. Clothes. Home decor. You name it, I probably like it more than cars.
And the proof is in the pudding…
Currently, I drive a 2015 Corolla and it’s the only car my husband and I have.
It’s paid off in full, and it’s still in really good condition.
Yet we’re often met with scrutiny from the peanut gallery as to “why we don’t get something nicer.”
The short and sweet answer is —because we don’t f*cking want to?
It’s nobody else’s business, frankly.
But because it seems to come up on a consistent basis, I’ve done some thinking on the subject.
What scenarios WOULD actually prompt me to consider a vehicle purchase in the foreseeable future?
There are only 4 potential reasons I can come up with.
As a couple that both work from home, we’re fortunate to be able to share 1 car.
But that could all change in the blink of an eye.
If one of us ever works outside of the home again, I might consider getting a second vehicle.
Although it wouldn’t be absolutely necessary, it would certainly be nice to NOT have 1 person stranded at home all day.
We could still make it work with 1 car in this scenario, but it might prove to be too inconvenient.
