Choose Your Top Three Goals for 2020 and Get Stuff Done

It’s like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.

My rabbit brain just googled to find out when the next Leap Year will happen. Every four years, just like U.S. presidential elections, except on the centurial years. I’ll take the extra 24 hours in 2020 and get stuff done. We are just starting the new year and I’m optimistic about the current twelve months plus a day.

To make changes, first determine your goals. For me this includes thinking about my achievements as well as the times I didn’t hit the mark during the year that just finished.

I have a passionate commitment to donating blood. My sixteen year old daughter was born 12 weeks early and needed blood transfusions during life saving surgery three weeks after her birth. Without the generosity of strangers who donated their blood, I feel certain that she would not have survived very long after her premature arrival.

2019 Volunteer Scorecard: Two successful blood donations. I didn’t prioritize eating iron building foods and getting plenty of sleep. I’m a little embarrassed to say that I was successful only in January and November 2019. We don’t usually travel during the summer but this year we went on two family reunion trips. Important memory making times but I still should have donated blood once in the summer.

2020 Volunteer Goal: Donate my blood four times. I currently have an appointment scheduled with an American Red Cross blood drive in late January. According to my ARC profile I have already given 29 units of whole blood or more than three gallons in my lifetime. Not too bad of a record for a 52 year old mom with Multiple Sclerosis, if I say so myself.

I’ve got more years left to pay it forward and give the gift of life to strangers by donating my blood. Although eligible donors can donate whole blood every 56 days, I have found that four successful donations per year…
