Time Management Tips for Musicians and Creatives

Stop wasting time, and start achieving your goals.

Do you ever feel like you’re just wasting your time? Time management sounds easy, but a lot goes into creating a schedule that meets your needs.

Whether you’re a musician or another type of creative, you probably have to juggle a lot of stuff. I’ve struggled to practice as much as I want, and I know the feeling of wasting time.

Luckily, I’ve been able to get over the struggle of time management. Here are some of the best strategies I’ve found to help you take control of your time.

One of the most crucial aspects of time management is prioritizing your time. This is especially important if you have a day job or are in school. But even if you work for yourself full-time, you need to know what’s most important.

Of course, you have to work and make money. You might also need to get your school work done if you’re a student. Maybe you have kids, and you need to feed and take care of them.

Before you can manage your time, you need to know what has to get done each day. Then, you can schedule time for each of those tasks. Start with the tasks that already have a schedule, such as work, and add in the other tasks to fill your day.

Next, you need to think about your future goals, either professional or personal. Maybe you want to perform in Carnegie Hall, or you want to get published in a major newspaper or magazine.

You may not HAVE to do things to prepare for that now. But if you want to reach those goals, you need to work toward them every day. If your goal is to give your Carnegie Hall debut, you should start practicing and improving on your instrument.

Look for time you have within your schedule so that you can practice to prepare for a potential future recital. As you get better at your music, you’ll have a better chance of playing in a great venue than if you let your skills slip.
