My experience with TDD and how to implement it in a project

Is it time to speed up or slow down?

On balancing a freelance writing career

I’ve got myself a new bad habit: I’ve been watching YouTube videos on double speed. Not just that, but I’ve also been listening to voice messages on double speed. My partner keeps asking me, “what’s the hurry?” “I just got stuff to do.”

Having to fit in more writing, more work, more family, and more life is all getting a bit too much.

They say it’s a challenge to pick between family, work or yourself, but why can’t I pick all three? They say the tug from different directions is healthy, but is it stressing me out?

I often think back to a Taxi driver I once spoke to: he said his old job as a chef kept him away from his family. Taxi driving allows him to work unsociable hours when his family sleep, so he can be there when they need him (during the day) — is this new life of his better? Or is he burning himself out?

The freelance industry is phenomenal, and one that I wish I’d known about earlier. Having been writing this newsletter for a couple of months now, I’ve seen almost every job under the sun and I can safely say, there’s a job for everyone.

The ability to live anywhere and work with such a broad list of clients or requirements is so liberating. I’ve spent close to 10 years working at large corporates, and it’s nothing short of stifling. Creativity is killed. Be free, and keep your independence!

Shout out: Amber is advertising for her fantastic free workshop on how to start freelance writing. The industry has a small learning curve, but once you know your way around it, you can really build a stand-alone business that’s built around only your free time (and not your bosses!)!
